# Analytics in the Merchant Portal

> Read your customer and channel performance for any date range: summary metrics, lifetime volume distribution, top customers, churn risk, top channels and accounts, and the View All drill-through on every widget.

The **Analytics** screen summarises how your customers and sales channels are performing over a date range you choose. It sits under **Growth Tools → Analytics** in the sidebar, and it is also where [Clever AI Actionable Insights](/clever-ai/actionable-insights) surface alongside your own figures.

Every widget shows the headline picture. Where a widget is a list, a **View All** button takes you to the full underlying data, so you are never limited to the top few entries.

## Choosing a date range

The date range picker at the top drives every widget on the screen; the range you select is reflected in the URL (for example, `?from_date=2026-07-04&to_date=2026-08-03`), so a particular view can be bookmarked or shared.

<Tip>
  Because all widgets follow the same range, comparing two periods means loading each in turn. Note the figures you care about from the first range before switching, or open the two ranges in separate browser tabs.
</Tip>

## The widgets

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Summary">
    The headline customer metrics for the selected range:

    * **Customers**: how many customers transacted.
    * **Average lifetime volume**: the average total value per customer.
    * **Average number of payments**: how many payments the average customer makes.

    Read the two averages together: rising volume with a flat payment count means customers are spending more per order, while the reverse means they are buying more often for less.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Customer lifetime volume distribution">
    A bar chart of how many customers sit in each lifetime-volume band, with customer lifetime volume across the horizontal axis and the number of customers up the vertical axis.

    This is the quickest way to see the shape of your customer base rather than just its average. A long tail of low-value customers and a few high-value ones produces a very different chart from an evenly spread base, even when the averages match.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Top customers by lifetime volume">
    Your highest-value customers, ranked, each with their lifetime volume and name. Select the chevron on a row to open that customer, or **View All** to open the full ranked list on the [Customers](/portal/customers) screen.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="First-time customers">
    Customers who are new in the selected range, with the date of their first payment. The widget heading carries the total count. **View All** opens the complete list.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Customers with high churn risk">
    Customers whose behaviour suggests they are about to lapse, each with the date of their last payment. The heading carries the total count, and **View All** opens the same segment on the [Customers](/portal/customers) screen, where you can sort it and export it.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Top #5 channels">
    Your five best-performing channels by payment count, shown with each platform's logo (for example, Shopify, Payment APIs, or WooCommerce). Use it to see which integrations are actually carrying your volume.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Top #5 accounts">
    Your five busiest accounts by visits, so you can tell which storefront or Payments Account is drawing traffic. Read it alongside Top #5 channels: a channel with high visits but low payments points at a checkout problem rather than a traffic problem.
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## Using View All

**View All** appears on every list-based widget. It carries the widget's segment through to the underlying screen with the filter already applied, rather than dropping you into an unfiltered list.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Find the segment you want">
    Pick the widget that describes the customers you are interested in: top by lifetime volume, first-time, or high churn risk.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select View All">
    The [Customers](/portal/customers) screen opens filtered to that segment.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sort, filter, and export">
    Sort by any column, narrow further with **More filters**, then **Export** to send the segment to an email address.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  A widget's top few entries are enough to notice a pattern, but not enough to act on it. **View All** is the step between the two: it is what turns "I have 57 customers at churn risk" into a list you can work through.
</Note>

## Asking Clever AI about the data

A Clever AI panel sits alongside the widgets with suggested prompts about your own data, such as customer growth trends week over week, which day of the week brings the most new customers, how much cashback drove repeat purchases, and customer spending broken down by location. Use the **Ask me about your payments or customers…** box to ask your own question.

<Tip>
  Use the widgets to spot that something changed and Clever AI to ask why. Then use the [Forecaster](/clever-ai/forecaster) to test what a response would be worth before you commit budget to it.
